Journal: coming together

Hello all,

Everything is slowly coming together for my two projects in the works.

Yesterday i met three more B-boys that are down to film with me on my documentary. I am making a ten minute documentary on the Albuquerque breakin scene. My plan is to make the project a collaborative effort with my friend who i produce films with and the new friends i am making through the project. Yesterday i filmed for about three hours at a local B-boys house. I feel like a sponge soaking up everything i can to learn more about the scene. I am taking a laid back approach that i hope will translate directly into my finished film. I want the piece to feel like the audience is just chillin with the B-boys and their crews-- thats exactly what I'm doing after all. It's a learn and observe first and film if I feel it kind of deal to me. They were all really nice and helped me clarify my vision for the project. I asked them to start collecting music that they would want in the film. I also got a lot of input on how to showcase their actions. I am coming to realize this filming process is somewhat like the process that i have been using for years on my snowboard, skate, and BMX films. I am setting up another time to film this weekend as well.

My second project is a pretty dark short story that I wrote in which a man(played by my friend and actor Kareem) is diagnosed with HIV. Distraught, he decides the only way to pay back the person who infected him is to kill all the possible culprits. He makes a list checks it twice and goes on a killing spree(all of which takes place tastefully off screen). But then of course there is a BIG twist that i'm not ready to reveal yet. I have the first three scenes storyboarded and highly developed. I will work more on the storyboards with Kareem tonight and film the first few scenes this weekend.

Journal:story boarding, few shots, more plans

Lately i have been working through some storyboards and getting all the logistics of my short project worked out. I am also working more on my documentary and got a few shots this weekend for it. It is a work in progress to be ten minutes long. i basically went around our city looking for places to shoot. I'm piecing my plan out tomorrow with Justin and we're writing a treatment for the whole thing. I also have thursday and this weekend as filming days.
